2018 Vet Nurse Positions

Scone Equine Hospital Intensive Care Unit is the largest Intensive Care Unit in Australia. We provide 24 hour a day, world class neonate, medical and post-operative care to the equine industry. We are currently looking for qualified Equine veterinary nurses with strong horse skills and teamwork to join us for the 2018 breeding season. This progressive practice is fully equipped and provides a working environment which is busy and stimulating. 

The successful applicant will have a passion for providing high quality patient care, customer service and will demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation and sound written, verbal AND computer skills. A strong team work ethic and the ability to work unsupervised are essential. This position would suit nurses looking to take the next step in their equine nursing career.

Positions will be available from Late July 2018 to January 2019. The successful applicant will work 9 hour shifts on a rotating roster.

Equine Medicine and Neonatology Fellow - Scone Equine Hospital

We have a seasonal position available for an equine medicine and neonatology fellow in our ICU. The desired start date is the 1st August 2018 and the position will run until December 2018. The position will be hospital based and exposure to a large number of intensive neonatal and adult equine medicine cases is guaranteed. The successful applicant will work alongside three equine medicine specialists to provide a high level of veterinary care to critically ill neonatal foals, adult horses and post-operative patients. We admit approximately 1000 cases to the ICU per year, of which more than 200 are critically ill neonatal foals. The on-call roster is a 1 in 2 roster for weeknights and weekends. The position will involve weeks when the fellow will be required to work afternoon and evenings rather than days as part of their normal work week. Participation in weekly journal club rounds will be expected. During December, a portion of the fellow’s time will be spent with the radiology team. The position would be suited to a candidate in pursuit of an equine medicine residency position who has completed an internship programme, a medicine resident who has recently completed their training programme, or a current ECEIM medicine resident in an alternate programme.

Scone Equine Hospital is the largest equine veterinary practice in Australia, employing approximately 40 equine veterinarians during the breeding season. We have support from three specialists in equine surgery, two specialists in theriogenology, associate veterinarians, interns, and a large team of experienced equine nurses. Available equipment includes a 3m video-gastroscope, video-endoscopy, dynamic endoscopy, diode laser, two ultrasound machines with Doppler, an ECG, digital radiography and full diagnostic laboratory. Scone is in the heart of the Thoroughbred breeding industry in Australia. It is a beautiful part of rural Australia located close to major regional cities and is approximately 3 and ½ hrs drive north of Sydney.

ICU Night Nurse

We are currently looking for a Main Barn Nurse Night Supervisor with strong horse skills and teamwork to join us for the 2018 breeding season. This progressive practice is fully equipped and provides a working environment which is busy and stimulating.

The successful applicant will have intensive care and neonatal experience, along with a passion for providing high quality patient care, customer service and will demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation and sound written, verbal and computer skills. A strong team work ethic and the ability to oversee staff and work unsupervised are essential. This position would suit an experienced vet nurse with good time management skills looking to take on more responsbility in their role. A nursing qualification would be highly desirable for this role.

The position is a full time night shift position and offers an attractive salary to the right candidate.

Laboratory Administration - Seasonal

Our laboratory has a seasonal clerical position available (July/August- December). Duties include specimen reception, the transcription and reporting of laboratory results and general office duties as part of a busy, close knit team.

A proficiency in Microsoft Word and Office, accurate keyboard skills, and an eye for detail are essential. We are looking for someone with good time management skills as well as a confident and professional phone manner. Cert III in Business, knowledge of the thoroughbred industry and a current driver’s licence is desirable.

Scientific/Techinal Officer (Casual Fixed Term)

Our Veterinary Laboratory requires a Scientific / Technical Officer to join the Laboratory team based at our Scone Hospital for the upcoming Thoroughbred breeding season (July – December 2018).

Previous experience (haematology, biochemistry and microbiology) in a veterinary or medical diagnostic laboratory is highly desirable. We are looking for someone who is motivated, reliable and flexible with a commitment to customer satisfaction. Participation in an after-hours roster with the ability to work unsupervised will be required. This role also requires a current driver’s licence.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in laboratory science or equine science are required.

Remuneration and conditions will be negotiated with the successful applicants.
